On My Mind Today:

Adding to the world news is the possible incredible invasion by something “unknown” from outer space, and the world-wide concerns about “visitors” from other inhabited galaxies and worlds protecting planet Earth from the human race in order to save the beautiful blue planet from us who could easily, according to most all scientific factions and institutions, potentially exterminate humanity by preventing the use of both nuclear energy and/or war as well as our recent move toward Artificial Intelligence.

I will add these incredible and frightening categories to this daily blog when I have corrected my vision problems. In the downtime I have been educating myself as fast and as able as I can to try to separated the “wheat” from the “chaff”. ~llaw

On My Mind Today:

In case you’re wondering about who the people “East of Idaho” are, but they are the Wyoming people and the rest of the United States and most of the rest of the world all the way back to the eastern Idaho border. I guess nobody else knew that, especially the people of Wyoming.. llolloll!! But still, an interesting story, wherever the headline came from . . .~llaw

Headline: “Massive 6.0 Earthquake EAST of IDAHO has Many People Worried”

Earthquakes are a topic of fear in the area, as we are often reminded of the dangers of the Yellowstone Caldera.

A Yellowstone National Park Caldera Is “Uplifting” For The First Time In Years

It’s an area bigger than Chicago, and it seems to be inflating. So should we worry?

With its vibrant technicolor thermal springsabundant wildlife, and looming apocalyptic threat, Yellowstone is nothing if not cinematic. But not all of the geological phenomena that make the place special are so dramatic.

Take the Norris Uplift Anomaly, for example: an area about 29 kilometers (18 miles) across lying along the north rim of the Yellowstone caldera which, local geologists now confirm, has started “deforming” under their very feet.

So, uh, here’s a question: what does that mean? And, you know… should we worry?

Deformations in the ground

“Yellowstone is a dynamic geologic system – the one constant is change.” So wrote Michael Poland, a geophysicist with the US Geological Survey (USGS) and Scientist-in-Charge at the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory, in a recent update to the Observatory’s regular Caldera Chronicles column.

“This is demonstrated daily by hydrothermal activity manifested in geysers, hot springs, mud pots, and other thermal features,” he wrote. But that’s not all: “even the ground itself moves!”

To geologists and volcanologists, it’s known as “deformation”: the changes in shape of a landscape around a volcano caused by the movement of magma beneath the surface. It’s particularly prevalent in a place like Yellowstone, sitting as it does right on top of a volcanic hotspot – an unusually hot area thought to be fed from magma deep within the Earth.

“It’s conceptually similar in some sense to what happens when you put a pot of water on your stove,” explained Leif Karlstrom, an earth scientist at the University of Oregon, in a November 2025 video for PBS Terra. “It’s heated from the bottom and cooled from above, and the hotter fluid is less dense, so it rises and it circulates. And that’s what’s going on in the solid earth under our feet all the time.”

This endless churning and motion, when not producing all-out volcanic eruptions, can cause the ground to literally swell and bend. Deformation can manifest as an uplift or inflation, occurring when the pressure under the ground increases for some reason, or subsidence or deflation when it decreases. “These changes can be driven by a variety of processes, like fault motion, accumulation or withdrawal of magma or hydrothermal fluids, and even cooling and contraction of subsurface fluids,” Poland explained.

And, for a long time, it did just that.

The Norris Uplift Anomaly

For nine years between 1996 and 2004, “an area along the north caldera rim, just south of Norris Geyser Basin, uplifted by a total of about 12 centimeters (almost 5 inches),” explained Poland. “This deformation came to be known as the Norris Uplift Anomaly (NUA), and it was thought to be a result of accumulation of magma 14 kilometers (almost 9 miles) beneath the surface.”

Radar interferograms from the 1990s showed a clear ripple pattern in the surface, centered close to the middle of the park; eventually, this pattern dispersed, as various areas in Yellowstone rose or sank with the movement of magma. And, to be fair, this was almost certainly not a new phenomenon: “This sort of activity is probably quite common, but it is only thanks to the technological innovations and expanded monitoring networks of the past few decades that such minor changes can be detected,” wrote Poland.

Four radar interferograms (InSAR data) superimposed on digital terrain showing surface movement at Norris Geyser Basin and Yellowstone Caldera from 1996 to 2003.

From its swollen peak in 2004, the NUA then spent the next decade or so subsiding, losing more than half of the height it had gained in the previous one. That’s not surprising: “When magma intrudes the crust it cools, crystallizes, and releases gases that had been dissolved in the melt,” explained Dan Dzurisin, emeritus geologist with the USGS, back in 2020. “Gas escape lowers pressure in the magma, causing the surface to subside. That’s probably what was going on.”

But in 2013, the situation flipped again: the area started inflating at the highest rate ever measured in Yellowstone – more than 15 cm (5.9 inches) per year. This was likely due to gas getting trapped under an impermeable layer of rock, resulting in increased upward pressure forcing the ground up at an unprecedented rate.

It didn’t last. In true Yellowstone fashion, the end came swiftly and dramatically, with a magnitude 4.9 earthquake – the largest in the area since the 1970s. For the next 20 months or so, Norris was all subsidence. “It seems likely the quake created microfractures that allowed gases to escape upward again, resulting in subsidence that ended in 2015,” explained Dzurisin.

The ground continued alternately uplifting and subsiding like this – albeit to a less impressive degree – until 2020, when Norris seemed to calm down. “No significant changes occurred after 2020,” Poland wrote. “Until now.”

Return of the NUA

Starting in July last year, GPS stations near Yellowstone caldera started moving again. It wasn’t by much: by September, the ground was only 2 centimeters (0.79 inches) higher than before, and had moved horizontally by half that.

But when scientists checked the interferometry data, it was confirmed: “The pattern of uplift was very similar to that of 1996–2004,” Poland reported. “It was clear. The NUA was back!”

Interferogram created from satellite radar data collected on October 7, 2024, and October 2, 2025, over the Yellowstone region by the Sentinel-1 satellite system.

It wasn’t just geological movement. The site also saw an uptick in seismic activity, including a “swarm” of more than 100 earthquakes in an area near the NUA – possibly as a response to the stresses of geological movement and increased pressure.

Such an increase in concentrated activity might make you wonder: should we be worried? Is this the start of Yellowstone’s fabled “big one”? And we’re delighted to inform you that, no, everything is fine. The activity seen lately, while noteworthy, is pretty minor overall – certainly nothing compared to the kinds of warning signs we’d get if Yellowstone were about to blow – and in any case, it’s probably very normal for volcanic hotspots like Yellowstone. As Dzurisin pointed out, “What’s different is that we now have the tools to detect and model Yellowstone’s ups and downs better than ever before.”

“For those in the know […] that’s awesome,” he wrote. “Not alarming.”

LLAW’s Nuclear World News’ Commentary from llaw — then last for a while . . .

Listen to this You Tube Video before reading my own thoughts below . . .

I have four severely important earth-shaking issues, three of which I have continually warned humanity about. They are our nuclear, AI, and other cultural problems concerning our future ability to survive, including all that I have been posting daily — most of which I have mentioned repeatedly — during my everyday post of LLAW’s Nuclear World News for more than three ye4ars, but no one seems to have listened, or if they did, most of them didn’t care about or even grasp the importance that vividly represents their lack of foresight, thoughtful evaluation, and common sense, which the corporate and political worlds and the man-on-the-street have entirely disregarded. Given what I have experienced over the 3+ years tells me that humans are little different than lemmings when it comes to considering — not so much their own lives, but communal death seems to be okay .

WE must turn this well-occupied human-filled globe around in order to avoid extinction. The key is ridding our lives of all things nuclear now . . .

1. Uranium Fuel Shortage (The Scarcity)

I have tried desperately to tell the world that our foolish effort to solve our energy shortage is by building new nuclear power plants and reawakening shut-down retired grandfathered dangerous plants that were properly closed for health and safety reasons for the ongoing life of the world’s population, including our four-legged and feathered friends, all of which is impossible without fuel to run nuclear reactors, but down the road the shortage may save millions of lives.

I have known since the late 1980s, as a corporate executive in the nuclear industry, as did hundreds of others, that uranium was too scarce to support a world-wide nuclear power industry. I am probably the only one, if there were once upon a time any others, still alive who tried their best to warn those who to this day still don’t understand, even now, that a nuclear power plant cannot operate without nuclear fuel. And, unlike coal and oil and gas, it has never been plentiful. So it is that Trump is now deadset on stealing other natural resources from other countries, such as Venezuela and Greenland (and no doubt others), and also begging Canada’s leader for uranium. To give it to him would cause world unrest and probable nuclear war.

Usually, I have described the insanity of corporations building nuclear power plants without any knowledge of adequate fuel to operate them, is like the ignorance of “putting the cart before the horse”, as I often describe the problem. In this case the analogy is like putting the billion dollar cart far before the broken-down old, two-bit, lame, and dying horse. I have also often referred to them as “white elephants”.

The scarcity of uranium could cause nuclear war all by itself . . .

2. Power Consumption & Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Once again , corporate greed and a lack of understanding reality has been ignorantly laid out by the concept of using huge, unaffordable nuclear power plants — doubtful at best — to sadly use the unredeemable value of Artificial Intelligence that would suck up a whole world of unnecessary, and unneeded energy that could better be used — if used at all — to provide shelter and protection for the poor and destitute countries, men, women, children, and their pets around the world, and simply forget about the need for a world of enlightened robots that would no doubt, once they realized how dull-minded their manufacturers are, swoop down and eliminate or take over the purpose all living things because they would have no need for future use of any of us. So it is that the concept of both nuclear power and its fuel go down together, taking life on planet Earth, with them as irrelevant to their needs.

3. Greed (Money Worship & Dominance of Wealthy Leadership)

It is our huge corporate communities and, more importantly, our political leaders who cause 99% of the the existing threats to humanity and other life. Everything we are forced to do is anti-human in the long run because it fails to consider on a grand scale when evacuating the corporate or governmental value of how we live our lives and how we adapt to what we are told to do, demanding of us, to do whatever we are instructed to do — gradually growing worse from the days of the caveman when “The Feminine Way” ran the household den or cave and supervised the clan while the male of our species was the hunter-gatherer. We need to regress from our male dominance ant honestly understand that our social system approaches chaos every day of every year, and back off our sadly mistaken dominance of the male in order to one future day gradually put the way the world works back in in “her” caring, fair, and gentle persuasion rather than constantly angrily contemplating war rather than a peaceful world.

4. Alien Invasion (“it came from outer space).

Ain’t nothin’ we can do about this except to hope they “Come in Peace”.

~LLAW

“End Nuclear Insanity Before Nuclear Insanity Ends Humanity”

Lloyd A. Williams-Pendergraft

Jan 11, 2026

Important Notice from Lloyd Albert Williams/Pendergraft . . .

This daily blog post will, for the next several issues at least, contain only the daily compiled LLAW’s Nuclear World News for an unknown period because my eyesight has quite suddenly become impossible for me to continue. (Google compiles the category lists from news sources for me automatically during the course of a day, so the articles and stories themselves are not a problem to post, although they are often out of order, which I will do my best to correct each day.)

But, rest assured, I’m not going away — doing everything in my power to remedy the problem with my eyes — and I hope to return to a full report of “All Things Nuclear” as soon as physically possible . . . ~llaw

“End Nuclear Insanity Before Nuclear Insanity Ends Humanity”

Lloyd A. Williams-Pendergraft

Jan 10, 2026

I hope to be back very soon, but my eyesight seems to be in the way for now. It seems like a bad dream . . . ~llaw

LLAW’s Nuclear World News’ Lead Story for Today . . .

from Lloyd Albert Williams/Pendergraft, to you . .

I have been fighting this progressive difficulty for longer than the last year, making my writing difficult to put together and forget about proofreading, but now, quite suddenly, my eyes have developed two characteristics that added to the vision difficulties that have gone beyond my ability to properly write my texts or to proofread my own writing to a degree that makes continuing my posts beyond my capability at least until I can find a way to correct the problems that I’ve had for several years that have now won my constant battle with them.

Recently, just a few days ago, I began to experience extreme double vision — especially when writing or reading script of all kinds and then just two days ago I began seeing two eyeglass black and white images of what looks like computer circuit boards, one for each eye, both of which have so many fake tiny contact-like e Edge Fingers and Conductors that I cannot easily see what I am writing (or often seeing through to them at other objects like windows or mirrors elsewhere).

This morning it has taken me more than two hours just to write and do my best to proofread what I have written above, so until I can properly restore my vision I am incapable of writing not only this daily blog, but a novel or two that have been diligently working on — one of which is draft=titled “El Nuclear Diablo”. ~llaw
