LAW’s All Things Nuclear Thoughts for Today . . .

Nuclear Power investments in the “get rich quick” expanding nuclear power craze has come to a screeching halt as thoughtless investors, both individuals and their corporations, have suddenly seen the light bulbs go off just above their heads, realizing that Return on Investment (ROI) or any “profits” from their investments will be many years in the making and, and in most cases, may never happen. Even if there happened to be a small profit at some point somewhere, the money invested after inflation would go to your aging children and grandchildren in 25 to 50 years, or even longer, if ever.

The nuclear industry, of course, has long been aware of its current and future costs, and the long term amortization of those costs of new nuclear power plants and operational facilities along with mechanical and other perilous issues of construction of old facilities that have already passed their “mothball” dates, plus the hazards of reactor cracks and other repairs, along with rising health and safety regulations of both new SMR (Small Nuclear Reactor) and full-blown multi-reactor plants controlled by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission ( NRC).

And then there is the problem as victims of war or weapons of war, whichever way you look at them as “sitting duck” nuclear power plants ready to victimize life of all kinds with clouds of drifting radiation, which are even now stationary weapons — think present day Russia/Ukraine war — or of future nuclear wars or even accidents— both offensively and defensively — could never make them a reliable investment for any rational reason.

These immense costs will not be going away any time soon despite what Trump ignorantly pursues, demanding relaxation of these selfsame health and safety issues both of operations regulations and the mandatory protection of the innocent public are also huge threats to both old and new nuclear power plants and their ultimate costs.

Plain and simple, nuclear power will never be a good investment nor will it be an efficient and cheap provider of electricity, which the advertised Nuclear Industry propaganda claims it will be . . . Otherwise wise men and their investing corporations and ill-educated private investors will never see any such profitable return on their investments other than those who already work in the industry . . . ~llaw
