“End Nuclear Insanity Before Nuclear Insanity Ends Humanity

LLAW’s Nuclear World News’ Image and/or Lead Story for Today . . .
To make a very long story short — briefly described in today’s “All Things Nuclear” Post — uranium is the last energy fuel that should ever be used, not only because it is of lethal danger at all times, but because it is far and away the most expensive, meaning the dollars saved from nuclear power could be much better used for renewable sources of our human energy needs. (Read On!) ~llaw

This is what a typical open pit uranium mine looks like after a few years of excavation with millions of dollars worth of labor, equipment, mechanical repair facilities, haul roads, ore and product weigh scales, along with ongoing operations day and nigh, all before the ore gets hauled, delivered to uranium refinement mills where an additional several million dollars worth of day/night shifts labor, facilities, equipment, multiple stories of reagent refinement tanks and conveyor belts operate — eventually leading to radioactive waste ponds as well as the mildly radioactive yellowcake (U3O8) uranium product, which is barreled in drums and shipped off to more facilities for further refinement and enrichment.
A uranium mining/milling operation also requires management and administrative offices, health and safety facilities, warehouses at both the minesite and mill site, plus a chemistry facility, also costing millions of dollars — and sometimes an entire townsite..
And then there is the enormous cost of labor. But wait, there is more . . .
So, perhaps you are beginning to understand the incredible cost of producing the basic finished product which eventually provides U235 as the fuel to operate an extremely expensive nuclear power plant — often with multiple nuclear reactors that create nuclear energy and also nuclear waste, which is without doubt the most environmentally dangerous to human and other life than any other fuel source.. Yet the industry claims uranium fuel is “clean”. I laugh every time I hear the two words spoken together. SMRs (Small Nuclear Reactors) are far from small, and I would never want one in my neighborhood . . .
And ,finally, then there is the cost of uranium mining and milling reclamation which involves backfilling the huge open pit(s) of extraction and destroying the mine and mill facilities, the overhead facilities, including safety issues like surface reclamation and safely removing tailings ponds, all costing additional millions of dollars.
This summary of most, but not all, of the cost of nuclear power is not only incredibly expensive — it is also filled with extremely dangerous mishandling or accidental mistakes in the entire process from first shovel-full to the last ounce of nuclear waste.
But my point is that power plants from uranium operations are far, far, more expensive than renewable power like Solar, Wind, Hydro (Hydropower), Geothermal, and others.
To make a very long story short, uranium is the last energy fuel that should ever be used, not only because it is of lethal danger at all times, but because it is far and away the most expensive, meaning the dollars saved from nuclear power could be much better used for renewable sources of our human energy needs.
A good way to do away with — rid ourselves forever — of “All Things Nuclear” would be to dump them all back into the pits where they came from and then begin the reclamation processes that have not been finished or adequately reclaimed. Other large open pit mines such as abandoned or extinct copper mines that have never been reclaimed could join the party. ~ llaw (This post was originally written, but never posted, a couple of years ago.)

Lloyd Albert Williams/Pendergraft, Content Creator . . .
This daily blog post will, for the next several issues at least, contains only the daily compiled LLAW’s Nuclear World News Today for an unknown period without comment or critique because my eyesight has quite suddenly become impossible for me to continue. (Google compiles the category lists from news sources for me automatically during the course of a day, so the articles and stories themselves are not a problem to post, although they are often out of category order, which I will do my best to correct each day.)
But, rest assured, I’m not going away — I am doing everything in my power to remedy the problem with my eyes — and I hope to return to a full daily report, including new, stronger and more internationally important commentary, of “All Things Nuclear” as soon as I am physically able . . . ~llaw\
