On My Mind Today:
Ok, so Trump has terminated the positions of all but one of the 11 member Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board because it seems he and the nuclear industry want to quadruple nuclear power by 2050 and to hell with the environment. This is not OK!
I have recently mentioned that we have made the long ago mistake-riddled nuclear “cart before the horse”, and this incredibly insane action by our obviously demented president puts the need for nuclear cleanup, control, storage, and the complicated problem of existing nuclear waste disposal several hundred more miles — or should I say years — behind the “cart” of nuclear power production, which already threatens not only the USA but other countries around the world except maybe Australia and New Zealand who have long resisted any use of nuclear power, including the idea of nuclear power proliferation.
But of course the nuclear industry is all for it because the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) along with us, meaning you and me, will pay the price in both the short and long-terms of this life-threatening decision. In short, we have no idea what we are doing where “all things nuclear” are considered. It is like Jesus Christ asking God to forgive his crucifiers, which went something like this: “Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing”, only probably even worse because the entire world’s population of humans and most other living species is involved if something goes wrong.
So, it appears we will have not only the threat of nuclear war on our hands, but also the threat of all kinds of nuclear power politics and manufacturing mistakes, accidents, potential terrorism, and the already happening — see the Russia/Ukraine war in the case of power plants but not yet bombs — consolidation of nuclear power with nuclear war because a nuclear power plant is also a potential localized in-place nuclear bomb.
There is a logical scenario that is already publicly seriously considered where the nuclear bombing of a nuclear power plant adds to the effective success of nuclear war. So, I ask you — would you want any more nuclear power plants near your home than you already have? ~llaw
